I am pleased to offer this video up to anyone about to remove their dreads. You do not have to shave your head!!! Below I have listed some helpful tips and I will continue to add more as people submit their dread related questions to me : )

• The best dread removal cream I have found is Dread Zasta. Here is a link to where you can purchase it http://www.dreadheadhq.com/store/dread-zasta
• I believe that the comb I used to brush out my dreads is the best one available. Here is the link to that too http://www.dreadheadhq.com/store/dreadlocks-comb
• Make sure that after you apply the dread Zasta cream to your dreads prior to removal, that you let it dry COMPLETELY!!! before you begin the brush out process : )
• Be patient when brushing them out. You should not hear “Ripping” sounds or you are being too aggressive
• Try to brush out the last 1″ of each dread closest to your scalp so that you can control the amount of pain you are going to endure. Other people can’t tell how sensitive your scalp is.
• After you brush your dreads out stay away from silicone based products and any shampoos with sulfates in them. They are too harsh for your damaged hair. Use organic oils and moisturize your hair as much as possible.
• Do not use any heat styling tools on your hair for at least a month or two after you remove your dreads. Let it air dry and be as gentle as possible.
• Do get a trim after you brush your dreads out. The damaged hair will have many split ends and will look much nicer if you get a healthy little trimmy trim trim.
• Don’t obsess over whether or not your hair looks good right after you brush it out. THere is a transition period for your hair and your mental state so be kind and patient with yourself : )
• Find a great leave in conditioner. I like this one by Shea Moisture http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/shea-moisture-organic-curl-%26-style-hair-milk/ID=prod6057763-product In fact their whole line of products for curly hair has SAVED my tresses : )
